The Truth Shall Set You Free

Posted by nytexan on September 26, 2007

The truth shall set you free.

But, what about President Bush?

Great men are not always wise

But, what about our nation?

Destruction cometh; and they shall seek peace, and there shall be none.

Oh well ….

There is a man named Peter in Belgium

Posted by bosskitty on August 6, 2007

Stumbled upon a comment on Carson’s Post: BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Hungarian scientists said on Tuesday they have discovered a group of fossilized swamp cypress trees preserved from 8 million years ago which could provide clues about the climate of pre-historic times. The trees date back to the late Miocene geological period at a time when the Carpathian basin — present day Hungary — was a freshwater lake surrounded by swamps.

The first comment came from a religious zealot, leftdog:

“Clearly they have been planted there by Lucifer Satan to trick you into believing in the sinful concept of ‘evolution’!/

Do you NOT understand that if these trees are ACTUALLY as old as you say, then the Book of Genesis and the Bible as a whole would be in error and we simply cannot have that!!!”

The comment from Peter to leftdog was beautiful:

“The bible is not a science book, my dear friends, it is a guidelline for living in respect to oneself and each other. In the bible, there is no proof of wether or not God exists and any discussion about it is pointless and mostly irrelevant. Living honorable and respectful is much more important and, as a matter of fact, the major point of any religious book.

Now let’s go back to science, shall we?”

I was impressed with the simplicity and depth of Peter’s answer. Religion must be used as a tool to heal and energize our spirit so we can explore the wondrous gift of intelligence. Those who want to limit their perception of the world to the pages of an old religious tome are completely missing the point of being alive. Religion the tool, or, religion the weapon, take your pick.
