Hey Bosskitty; Wanted to send you a little update on the Teach-In. The faculty & K-12 teachers managed a massive operation of locating Teach-Ins in EVERY state in the U.S. and even in Canada and Mexico! Go to the site and look at the action map. All those little green flags are awesome to see — NOW we have to keep the momentum up and shove it in the faces of the U.S. Congress to LISTEN UP & TAKE ACTION NOW! The YOUTH have spoken!

Thanks Wil, there is enough grief to go around the world a few times. There is a giant pity pot (of our own making) that threatens to flush those too tired, stubborn or just plain deluded. There are plenty left that will actually start figuring out ways to help themselves. Jails are already overcrowded, so breaking the law to get a meal and bed are a poor option. that leaves creativity. We are here because our predecessors managed to survive. Time to make our predecessors proud. Slam two stones together and make your own fire … Children in poor countries manage to harvest a living from garbage dumps that contain less reusable material than America’s dumps. It will take some pride swallowing for Americans to adopt a less throw away attitude and consume less.
Just an aside, I reuse kitty litter plastic jugs for holding water and making veggie planters out of. (They make great ashtrays, too, add a little water.)

I think you really hit on something there in the last paragraph. The best way to “sell” recycling, green energy, etc. to the public is by using what we all value – money.

Convincing the public that it will save them money to go green might be the motivation we need to really make a move. Using consumerism (which entails getting the most for your money) may work better – especially since many seem to think that going green means anti-consumerism.
