Steven, there are many parallels to how conquerors treat indigenous people. The American Indians are but one example. Europeans treated the western hemisphere as its vassal as they sought empires. Indigenous populations who resented and opposed the invaders were destroyed. The survivors were put to work supporting the invaders. Describing the pattern is not condoning it! Humans, by nature, must feel superior to something ... or someone. When self esteem relies on suppressing someone else, a truly dysfunctional condition exists. Countries resorting to force demonstrate their failure to respect the non-compliant. Non-compliance can make people expendable. Noisy opposition is a form of non-compliance. America, the idea, started out as dissenters to the spreading British Empire. Things devolved when America decided it had a right to become it own empire. Now, we see America behaving like a dysfunctional empire, courting another dysfunctional empire for mutual gain. Again, recognizing the pattern is not condoning it.

Do you think that it was justified for the westerns to invade and kill the American Indians? The reason that the American Indians do not reclaim their world is that they are much much less powerful than the invaders, NOT that they are unjustified to do so.
